Covid-19 Vaccinations

Update (12 March 2021)

Firstly we would like to thank you for your patience over the last couple of weeks when our COVID Vaccination Hub has had no or little vaccination appointments to offer. This week we have had confirmed delivery dates for the next 2 weeks so are pleased to advise that we are continuing to work our way down the cohorts of patients and are able to offer those in cohort 7 (patients aged 60 – 64 years) and cohort 8 (patients aged 55 – 59 years) a COVID-19 vaccination appointment at Derby Arena. You will have either received a telephone call, SMS message or letter advising you on how to book your appointment.

For those in cohorts 1 – 6 (aged over 65, Clinically Extremely Vulnerable or At Risk) who have not yet booked their appointment, letters and SMS messages have been sent centrally from NHS England to you as a reminder inviting you to book an appointment online through the Mass Vaccination programme or call NHS 119, where you may have a different choice of vaccination location. As a practice we will continue to remind you as well to ensure that you do not miss out on a vaccination.

If you do NOT want to have the vaccination please let us know so we can make a note on your record, if you dissent and later change your mind please let us know and we will try to book an appointment for you.

Regarding your second dose of the COVID-19 vaccination, please note that we are unable to change your allocated appointment at present. We ask that you refrain from contacting us about this.

For those patients who are under the care of a Consultant and require a sooner second vaccination (before 12 weeks) please request your Consultant to book your appointment through the Mass Vaccination programme.

Update (25 February 2021)

We have recently received an update from the COVID-19 Vaccination Hub at Derby Arena that over 52,000 patients in Derby City have been vaccinated so far; this is a great achievement for all involved. This has placed Derbyshire as the second highest county in England for vaccination uptake. With this in mind, COVID-19 vaccination allocations and deliveries have started to slow down in Derbyshire area, unfortunately this is out of our control and we have no influence on how the vaccinations are distributed across the country. With our allocations being smaller, the Derby Arena is not able to add as many clinics as before. We ask that you bear with us during this time and know that as soon as we are allocated more vaccinations they will be offered to our patients in cohort order.

We are aware that additional patients have been identified as ‘high risk’ and have subsequently been sent shielding letters by the Government / NHS England. Please note that these letters have not been generated by the Practice and our GPs will not be able to provide any information or letters to our patients regarding their new shielding status, please see the ‘Guidance on shielding and protecting people who are clinically extremely vulnerable from COVID-19’ page on the Gov.uk website for more information.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Update (16 February 2021)

We are pleased to advise that the majority of our patients in cohorts 1 – 5 have now been contacted or have their first COVID-19 vaccination. We will now start to contact those patients in cohort 6 aged 18 – 64, starting with the oldest, cohort 6 comprises of patients with the following conditions:

  • chronic respiratory disease, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis and severe asthma
  • chronic heart disease (and vascular disease)
  • chronic kidney disease
  • chronic liver disease
  • chronic neurological disease including epilepsy
  • Down’s syndrome
  • severe and profound learning disability
  • diabetes
  • solid organ, bone marrow and stem cell transplant recipients
  • people with specific cancers
  • immunosuppression due to disease or treatment
  • asplenia and splenic dysfunction
  • morbid obesity
  • severe mental illness

Please wait to be contacted by the Practice and we will arrange an appointment with you.

For those patients in cohorts 1 – 5 who have not yet booked an appointment, we will continue to try and contact you to arrange this; letters will also be sent centrally from NHS England to your home as a reminder inviting you to book an appointment online.

For those patients who are housebound, we have been advised that the majority of patients have now been vaccinated; we are working closely with the teams to ensure that all patients are vaccinated hopefully before the end of February 2021.

If you are a health care worker please note that you can book your COVID-19 vaccination by contacting NHS 119 or book online via the GOV website: www.nhs.uk – Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine .

Update (8 February 2021)

We are pleased to advise that we have successfully vaccinated a large proportion of our patients over 80 years old, we have also started to vaccinate those aged 70 – 79 and those who are Clinically Extremely Vulnerable as per national guidance.

Once we have offered and booked appointments to the patients above we will start offering the vaccination to those aged 65 – 69 years old and continue to work down the age groups in line with national guidance. Unfortunately we are unable to move to the next cohort until these patients have been booked, despite what the media may say.

Please do not contact the Practice about your vaccination, we will either call you to book an appointment or send you a SMS with a link to book your appointment online. If no appointments are visible online the Practice will not be able to book you an appointment either, this is a live booking system across the 5 Primary Care Networks in Derby, we recommend that you keep checking as new clinics are added on a regular basis dependent on delivery schedules to Derby Arena. Deliveries of the COVID-19 vaccinations can sometimes be within a 24 hour turnaround time so please bear with us.

For those patients who are housebound, we are working closely with other providers to ensure patients are vaccinated safely and as soon as possible. Please wait to be contacted about your vaccination at home.

To support the COVID-19 vaccination Hub we are releasing clinical staff such as GPs and Nurses to vaccinate patients and non-clinical staff to support the running of the Hub. Due to this you may experience a longer waiting time for an appointment or for your call to be answered, with this in mind we ask for your patience and that you bear with us during this time, we are doing our upmost to support the COVID-19 Hub and the practice need.

We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all involved in the COVID-19 vaccination Hub and our patients for working with us during this mass vaccination programme.

Update (4 January 2021)

We are pleased to advise that Derby Practices have recently been allocated a small number of vaccinations, as such we are prioritising our most vulnerable patients. In line with public health guidance we have started to book patients in for their first vaccination in January 2021 and, with the latest evidence suggesting that the first dose provides protection for most people for up to 3 months, their second vaccination in March 2021 (12 weeks apart). As before please wait to be contacted by the Practice regarding your COVID-19 vaccination.

When will I get my COVID-19 vaccine?

The CCG have produced a useful guide to show when patients are likely to be invited for their COVID-19 vaccination, for more information please view the “When will I get my COVID-19 vaccine?” guide.

Thank you.

Phase 1 – COVID Vaccinations

In line with national and local guidelines the practice has signed up to the COVID-19 vaccination programme.

Phase 1 of the programme will be via the hospital and their hubs, they will be vaccinating:

  • any patient due to be discharged
  • patients aged 80 or above who are attending for an appointment
  • care home workers
  • vulnerable hospital staff

Phase 2 of the programme will be via the 5 Derby City Primary Care Networks who are running a hub from Derby Arena in Pride Park, Derby. We have started the process of organising this and hope that in the next coming weeks we will be able to provide further information of when appointments will be made available to our patients. In the meantime please could we ask you not to contact the practice regarding the COVID-19 vaccination.

If you wish to help with the COVID-19 vaccination programme please view the “Join the NHS COVID-19 vaccine team” page on the NHS website.
